Italy's Western Mediterranean coast runs from Liguria and Tuscany to Lazio, Campania, Sardinia, and Sicily. The coastline offers short Riviera legs, Tuscan island stops, large urban ports, volcanic islands, and longer crossings between the mainland and the islands.

The main season usually runs from April to October. July and August are hot, crowded, and often expensive. Spring and early autumn are calmer for planning, but weather changes still need attention. Mistral, Libeccio, Scirocco, and local thermal winds can shape routes, especially around Sardinia, Sicily, and exposed capes.

Navigation is usually straightforward near major ports, but the coast changes character quickly. Check steep shorelines, traffic schemes near commercial ports, military areas, ferry routes, marine protected areas, and island approaches. Crossings to Sardinia, Sicily, the Aeolian Islands, and the Tuscan Archipelago should be made only with a stable weather forecast.

Infrastructure is strongest around Genoa, La Spezia, Livorno, Naples, Palermo, Cagliari, Olbia, and the larger resort marinas. Yacht services range from full technical yards and good provisioning to simple seasonal harbours. In high season, popular marinas and island berths should be booked in advance.
