Portoferraio marinas
Portoferraio and northern Elba combine a fortified port town, pale beaches and coastal villages beneath the hills.
Portoferraio
Portoferraio is recognisable from the sea by the fortifications above its old harbour. Behind them lie hillside streets, squares and places associated with Napoleon’s stay on Elba. This is the most urban part of the northern coast, with a busy port and everyday island life.
To the west, pale pebble beaches give way to Procchio’s sand, then to rocks and coves around Marciana Marina and Sant’Andrea. Green slopes rise above the coastal settlements, where small beaches and seaside walks become the main attractions.
