River Orwell and Harwich Haven marinas
Suffolk’s River Orwell leads from the commercial ports of Harwich Haven to green riverbanks and Ipswich’s town waterfront.
River Orwell and Harwich Haven
The Orwell and Stour meet at the sea entrance, beside the working ports of Harwich and Felixstowe. Farther up the Orwell, large terminals give way to green slopes, riverside moorings, and villages.
The area combines a sea passage with a separate river journey to Ipswich. Staying near the entrance and stopping in town are different experiences: the urban waterfront requires a passage upriver, rather than a brief detour from the coast.
Harwich retains its wooden Ha’penny Pier, while Ipswich’s former docks form part of the town waterfront. Between them, the river scenery and bank-side walks are attractions in their own right.
