Greek waters break into distinct zones. The Ionian (Corfu–Zakynthos) offers sheltered coasts, reliable afternoon breezes (maistral), short legs and the Lefkas canal transit. The Saronic and Argolic gulfs form an “urban” arena with dense berthing and straightforward navigation. The Cyclades are more exposed: in summer (typically June–September) the NE–N Meltemi can blow strong, funnelling between islands. The Dodecanese often see lower sea state in the lee of Türkiye yet remain Meltemi-affected; shelter options are plentiful. The Sporades and the northern Aegean mix forested shores and marine parks with gentler seas and easy day hops. Crete is a stand-alone circuit with varied wind regimes and cape acceleration zones.

Overall the basin is micro-tidal; wind and pressure drive sea level and sea state. Cruising is mainly daylight-based with many havens, clear approaches and robust shoreside support—keep an eye on ferry traffic on inter-island routes.
