Kefalonia is a major Ionian hub: the sheltered Gulf of Argostoli, easy day hops toward Ithaca/Lefkada, micro-tidal waters with a reliable summer maistral, an exposed west coast, and a string of practical ports on the east and north coasts.

The island runs NW–SE and naturally suits short day sails between close harbours.
Inside the Gulf of Argostoli, town-front berths in Argostoli and Lixouri offer calm water and easy logistics for provisioning and lay-ups.
Along the east coast, Sami and Agia Efimia handle transit and charter traffic and make handy springboards to Ithaca and north toward Lefkada/Meganisi.
To the north, Fiskardo is a postcard-perfect but compact stop—berths are limited and most boats go stern-to on their own anchors. Poros on the SE is a ferry harbour with yacht space and a useful waypoint when running the coast. The west coast is high and exposed: anchorages are scenic but all-weather refuges are few.
Tides are small; wind and pressure drive sea level and chop. Summer brings a dependable maistral, with gusts and occasional night katabatics in narrow coves.
