Heligoland is Germany’s only offshore island in the open North Sea and the primary yacht stop outside the Wadden Sea.
Heligoland lies about 25 nautical miles offshore and differs fundamentally from mainland North Sea ports. There are no drying flats or tidal access restrictions, with deep water maintained at all times. Historically used as a naval and maritime base, the island now serves as a key navigation reference and a safe haven in the German Bight.
The main harbour, Südhafen, is well sheltered and specifically geared toward visiting yachts. Heligoland is commonly used as a staging point for offshore passages between Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
