Maritime history shapes the town: for centuries, Denmark collected tolls from ships passing through the strait. Kronborg recalls that role and is also known as the setting of Hamlet. Nearby, the M/S museum explores sailors’ lives and Danish shipping. Behind the port, the old town has merchants’ houses, small shops and cafés, while Sweden’s Helsingborg is visible across the water.
