About Sylt

Sylt lies near the Danish border and belongs to the North Frisian island group. Its west coast is fully exposed to the North Sea and unsuitable for yacht harbours, while all ports are located on the sheltered Wadden Sea side.

Navigation is strictly tide-dependent, with narrow channels, strong currents, and significant drying areas. Compared to the East Frisian Islands, Sylt’s harbours are more suited to longer stays and regional sailing.

The island is highly developed for tourism, yet its marinas remain practical rather than resort-style. Sylt is often used as a staging point when sailing between Germany and Denmark.
