Cyprus offers a long warm season and an open coastline, with sea stops near ancient sites, resorts and natural headlands.

A Cyprus voyage follows one large island. There is no chain of nearby islands offering a constant choice of alternative routes. Arrival from another country is a separate sea passage, while coastal cruising depends on which side offers better shelter from wind and waves.
Along the south coast, urban waterfronts and beach resorts can be combined with visits to ancient sites. Paphos is particularly known for its archaeology; Akamas in the west and Cape Greco in the southeast offer a different experience of natural coastline and seaside walks.
Summer is long and hot. Spring brings greener landscapes, while autumn seas retain their warmth after the heat eases. Mild winter air temperatures do not make open-water passages equally convenient throughout the year.
Watch out for: Entry arrangements differ between northern ports and those controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. The Republic of Cyprus considers entry through northern ports illegal, which may affect subsequent clearance. Sailing around the island cannot be planned on weather alone.

First arrival
Cyprus is in the EU but, at the date checked, is not yet in Schengen. Arrival from Greece also requires checking border formalities. Choose a port recognised by the Republic of Cyprus and arrange clearance for the yacht and people in advance.
- Prepare vessel documents, insurance, personal travel documents and a crew list. Confirm the clearance location and reporting arrangements with the receiving port in advance.
Coastal cruising
After clearance, confirm local requirements for subsequent stops and current marine warnings. Initial clearance does not replace permission for restricted waters.
- The Republic of Cyprus considers entry through northern ports illegal. Before including such a leg, check the legal consequences for later calls and the crew.
Departure and leaving the yacht
Arrange international departure with the port, border service and customs. A passage to Greece should not be treated as an internal Schengen crossing.
- For leaving the yacht or extending temporary admission, contact the relevant customs office; the crew’s permitted stay is considered separately.

The yacht’s flag, customs status and the crew’s entry rights are separate matters. For a yacht without Union customs status, confirm temporary-admission eligibility and conditions for the owner or user. This guide sets no universal permitted stay.
