🇨🇾 Cyprus

Island cruising ground in the eastern Mediterranean with microtidal waters, persistent summer northerlies (Etesians) and SAR coordinated by JRCC Larnaca. Cyprus is in the EU but outside Schengen; ports in the island’s north are designated closed by the Republic of Cyprus.

About Cyprus

Tides are small and day-to-day conditions are driven more by wind and set.

Summer brings northerly Etesian flows and strong sea-breeze cycles; winter fronts shift winds to easterly or southerly sectors with longer swell. Dust events can reduce visibility at times. Search and rescue is coordinated by JRCC Larnaca within the Nicosia FIR.

Administratively, Cyprus is EU but not Schengen, so passport control applies; the Republic of Cyprus designates northern ports as closed. For cruisers the island lends itself to circular routing with short hops between well-sheltered stops, balancing open-coast legs with lee-shore protection.
