Eckerö is an island in western Åland, with the fishing harbour of Käringsund, sandy beaches and a history of carrying mail across the sea.

Eckerö is a place of small coastal settlements, old boathouses and a shoreline alternating between rock and sand. Käringsund’s guest harbour retains the setting of a fishing village, with the Hunting and Fishing Museum nearby offering a view of local life. The imposing Post and Customs House recalls the old sea mail route to Sweden. The island also has more open shores: the sandy beach at Degersand is in southern Eckerö, away from Käringsund.
