Vis island

Vis Island, located in the central Dalmatian archipelago of Croatia, is a favored sailing destination known for its clear waters, sheltered bays, and historical maritime heritage. The island has two primary harbors: Vis Town on the northeast coast and Komiža on the western side.

Vis Town harbor provides a marina quay with approximately 100 berths, equipped with water, electricity, showers, toilets, fuel station, and provisioning options. Komiža harbor, smaller but well-protected, offers around 30 berths with basic facilities, including water, electricity, and sanitary amenities. Mooring buoys and anchoring opportunities exist in numerous sheltered bays around the island, notably Stončica, Rukavac, and Stiniva.

Sailing conditions around Vis are generally moderate, with prevailing northwesterly Maestral winds during summer months (June–September). Currents are minimal, and water depths around the island are typically safe for navigation, though caution is advised near rocky shores and reefs. Historically, Vis was strategically significant, notably hosting naval battles, including the 1866 Battle of Vis.
