Birgu, also known as Vittoriosa, is one of the Three Cities across Grand Harbour from Valletta. Its yacht waterfront lies beside the old centre, where narrow streets lead between stone houses and small squares.
Fort St Angelo stands at the end of the peninsula and was once the headquarters of the Knights of Malta. Its walls overlook the harbour and surrounding fortifications. Birgu combines the life of a waterfront town with a maritime history that is visible well beyond its museums.
