~ 61.21 nm ~ 12 h 14 m
The route from Pirita (Tallinn, Estonia) to Hanko (Finland) covers 61.21 nautical miles across the Gulf of Finland, a busy international shipping lane. Departing Pirita Marina (59.470002,24.820001), maintain a careful watch for local traffic, fishing vessels, and ferries near Tallinn. The initial segment passes through shallow coastal waters; stay within marked channels to avoid sandbanks and submerged rocks, especially near the Viimsi Peninsula.
As you head west-southwest, crossing the main shipping lanes (notably near 59.714008,23.37695), expect frequent large vessel traffic, including tankers and ferries. Maintain AIS watch and VHF Channel 16 monitoring. The central Gulf is exposed, with prevailing southwesterly to westerly winds (10–20 knots common in summer), often creating short, steep seas. Fog is possible, especially in spring and autumn.
Approaching Hanko, numerous skerries and rocky outcrops require precise navigation. Follow buoyed fairways and heed local Notices to Mariners. Depths decrease rapidly near Hanko; keep to charted routes to avoid grounding. Night entry is not recommended without local knowledge due to unlit hazards.

You can enter the marina from either the west or the east side, but in any case, you need to be very careful (the passage is narrow) and follow the markers precisely.
