Atlantic Spain is a different cruising proposition from the Mediterranean coast. The north and northwest are shaped by ocean swell, exposed headlands, fishing traffic and harbour entrances that need timing, while Galicia offers deep rias that can give excellent shelter once you are inside.

Farther south, Atlantic planning starts to feel more offshore-minded, and the Canary Islands are a separate step again: longer legs, fewer bailout options and stronger dependence on seasonal weather. These routes reward crews who are comfortable waiting for proper windows rather than forcing a schedule.

Infrastructure is good in the main ports and marina hubs, but the character is Atlantic: swell in the approaches, fog or poor visibility at times, and capes that can accelerate wind. It suits sailors building passage experience between mainland stopovers and island-bound routes.
