Kronstadt grew as a maritime fortress, and that history still shapes the town. Old harbours, Peter’s Dock and the forts around Kotlin show how the approaches to Saint Petersburg were defended and the fleet maintained. The large Naval Cathedral dominates the centre, with parks and waterfront walks beside the historic streets. Fort Konstantin adds coastal fortifications and the Lighthouse Museum to a visit. It lies away from the centre, so visiting both the town and the fort involves travelling between them.
