Baltiysk’s defining feature is the proximity of a working port and an open-sea shoreline. Ships pass through the strait, an old lighthouse stands on the waterfront boulevard, and sandy beaches stretch along the coast beyond. Fortifications and pre-war buildings recall the former town of Pillau. Across the strait lies the northern end of the Vistula Spit, with dunes and remains of defensive structures, offering an excursion from the town. The naval and commercial port remains part of everyday life, rather than simply a historical backdrop.
