Klaipėda is a port city at the entrance to the Curonian Lagoon, with an old town, the Danė waterfront and sandy beaches in Smiltynė on the Curonian Spit.

Klaipėda combines a busy working port with an old town of half-timbered houses and former trading warehouses. Cafés and restaurants line the Danė, and the castle harbour is close to the historic centre.

Across the strait, Smiltynė marks the northern end of the Curonian Spit. It has another yacht harbour, pine woods, long sandy beaches and the Lithuanian Sea Museum. A ferry connects Smiltynė with central Klaipėda.
