Lithuania pairs an open Baltic shore with the Curonian Lagoon, and the maritime city of Klaipėda with the Curonian Spit’s dunes and fishing villages.

Lithuania has a short seaboard but two contrasting areas for a yacht trip. Outside the Curonian Spit lies the open Baltic with long sandy beaches. Behind it is the broad Curonian Lagoon: sea swell does not enter directly, but wind still shapes conditions on the water. Lagoon routes require attention to draught and the chosen fairway.
Summer warmth allows more time on the water and ashore. Spring and autumn are cooler, and waves are more noticeable along the exposed coast. In winter, the shallow Curonian Lagoon can freeze; conditions there differ from those at sea beyond the spit.
Klaipėda brings an urban, working-port character to the trip. On the Curonian Spit the setting changes to small settlements, pine forests and dunes worth allowing time to explore ashore. Fishing history lives on in local boats, houses and museums. Open sea, lagoon and a distinctive sandy landscape come together within a relatively compact area.

From outside Schengen
Arrange the first call at a port with suitable border-clearance facilities in advance.
- Confirm with VSAT and the port whether this yacht can be cleared and which documents and notifications are needed. Prepare vessel details and a list of everyone aboard. Each person’s entry eligibility is a separate matter.
Customs — separately
A Schengen route alone does not remove customs obligations. Ask Lietuvos muitinė about the boat and goods, taking account of the departure country, the vessel’s customs status and applicable restrictions.
