About Ruhnu Lighthouse

The Ruhnu Lighthouse is located on the eastern side of Ruhnu Island and is the only surviving metal lighthouse of its kind in the Baltic Sea region. The lighthouse, built in 1877 based on the design by engineer Louis Édouard Lecointre, stands 40 meters tall and is made of sheet metal. Its distinctive cylindrical shape, supported by slanted struts, gives the lighthouse a unique appearance. The original light beacon was destroyed during World War I but was restored in 1937. The lighthouse remains operational to this day and features a unique light pattern: 1 second of white light followed by 3 seconds of darkness. During the summer season, the Ruhnu Lighthouse can be visited with an entrance fee. It offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy views of the Baltic Sea and learn about the island's history as well as this significant maritime landmark.
