Maritime history is the main reason to sail here, and it can be explored right by the water. The Viking Ship Museum brings together surviving ancient vessels, reconstructions and traditional boatbuilding. Above the harbour lies the old town, with its cathedral, shopping streets and cafés. The approach follows a long fjord with low shores and small islands: a visit is a separate journey into Zealand, returning by the same waterway.
