Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria changes markedly from one coast to another. In the northeast, Las Palmas is a large port city with the historic Vegueta quarter and Las Canteras beach. Resorts and sandy beaches line the southern coast, where the Maspalomas dunes stand out. The western shore becomes high and rocky.
Inland are ravines, pine forests and mountain villages, very different from the built-up resort coast.
