Italy Brindisi Monument
40° 38' 27" N, 17° 56' 35" EIn the heart of Brindisi, on Piazza Santa Teresa, stands a moving and elegant monument — The War Memorial, dedicated to the citizens of Brindisi who lost their lives during the First World War. Designed by sculptor Edgardo Simone, the memorial combines strength and emotion with timeless artistry.
Originally located in Piazza Dionisi, the monument was relocated in 1940 to its present, dignified setting. Its bronze figures and stone reliefs tell stories of courage, sacrifice, and love — a winged figure symbolises victory and hope, while the tender image of a mother and child reminds visitors of the human cost of war.
A recent restoration has returned the monument to its former splendour. Today, it stands not only as a tribute to the fallen, but also as a place of reflection — where time seems to slow, and the sea breeze carries whispers of history and peace.
