The Green Lighthouse of Punta Riso
About The Green Lighthouse of Punta Riso
At the northern breakwater of Brindisi’s port stands a modest yet vital navigational beacon — the Green Lighthouse of Punta Riso. Rising about ten meters high, this metal tower safely guides incoming vessels with its distinctive pattern of two green flashes every ten seconds. Located at the very end of the long stone pier, the lighthouse offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Adriatic Sea.
Though simple in form and industrial in appearance, it plays an important role in Brindisi’s maritime heritage. Historical records mention that a larger, now deteriorated lighthouse once stood in the Punta Riso area, serving as a well-known local landmark. The current green light operates automatically and forms part of Italy’s coastal navigation system, ensuring the safety of maritime traffic.
