Cartagena is an all-weather hub on the Costa Cálida: a deep, natural harbour split into the city basin and the industrial Escombreras basin, straightforward approaches, and dense services for transit and wintering.

The port is divided into two independent basins—Cartagena (inner city harbour) and Escombreras—about 1.5 nm apart; yachts use the city basin while keeping clear of heavy traffic to Escombreras.
Approaches are well buoyed; once inside the breakwaters, manoeuvring is sheltered by surrounding hills. Cartagena Port Control works on VHF Ch 14.
Tides are small; wind setup dominates sea level and sea state, with Levante/Poniente episodes occasionally raising short, steep chop. With the old town and shore services right behind the docks, Cartagena works both as a short-hop base along the Costa Cálida and as a reliable wintering port.
