Vassbacken

Vassbacken is a small canal village on the western side of Göta Canal, near Töreboda. It lies beside Berg Canal, a narrow section where the canal was cut through rock. The waterway feels tighter here than on many other stretches of the canal.

The village is surrounded by trees and quiet canal banks. It is a simple place to slow down, walk along the water, and watch boats pass through the narrow channel. A café, restaurant, camping, and small visitor services make it a practical overnight stop.

Vassbacken also has a small historical connection to the old road between Mariestad and Karlsborg. The former post house by the harbour is open as a museum in summer.

On the water, keep to the marked channel and move carefully through the narrow Berg Canal. Check canal opening times, local instructions, and guest-berth availability before arrival.

Best for: a quiet Göta Canal stop, a walk ashore, a meal by the water, and a peaceful overnight.

Watch out for: narrow channel sections, other canal traffic, seasonal services, and limited guest berths.
