Nazaré
Nazaré is known for enormous ocean waves and enduring fishing traditions. Fish are still dried on the shore, and old houses beside a long sandy beach give it the atmosphere of a seaside village. Viewpoints above the town overlook the bay and open ocean.
The famous waves are watched at Praia do Norte, beyond the high headland. Their appearance depends on ocean swell; even without them, Nazaré is worth visiting for the town and its striking coast.
