Jahtsadamad: Amsterdam

A key node on the Standing Mast Route with essentially tideless waters: enter from the sea via the IJmuiden locks on the North Sea Canal or from the Markermeer via the Oranjesluizen; free GVB ferries criss-cross the IJ by the centre, and the historic canals become an emission-free zone.

Sihtkohast: Amsterdam

Sea access runs along the North Sea Canal through the IJmuiden sea lock (the world’s largest), providing tide-independent entry; from the east, boats transit via the Oranjesluizen from the Markermeer.

Amsterdam is a mandatory section of the Standing Mast Route, with night transits for taller rigs.

While the canal/port are effectively non-tidal, IJsselmeer/Markermeer levels are managed by Rijkswaterstaat and can swing with wind set-up.

Expect frequent, free GVB ferry crossings on the IJ near the city centre.

From 1 November 2025 the historic centre’s canals are an emission-free zone for pleasure craft, with specified exceptions and bypass routes.

Prevailing winds are generally south-westerly/westerly along the Dutch coast.
