Expandable Hose: Small Size, Big Utility On Board

Expandable Hose: Small Size, Big Utility On Board

In the world of boating, where every inch of storage counts, finding a cleaning tool that’s compact, reliable, and actually enjoyable to use feels like striking gold. That’s exactly how I felt after spotting a curious gadget on a neighbor’s boat last season — a hose that stretches and shrinks like magic.

I picked up the MAG PRO Garden expandable hose, the 10-to-30 meter version, which even came with a spray nozzle. Surprisingly affordable, and easily one of the most useful tools I’ve brought aboard.

Why it’s great

I mainly use it for rinsing down the deck and hardware after sailing. Salt, dirt, and shore dust — all gone in minutes. The best part? When not in use, it compresses and fits neatly inside a regular bucket — something every sailor already has on board.

When water pressure fills the hose, it stretches to full length and lets you move around the boat freely. It doesn’t kink, doesn’t get tangled, and is super lightweight even when extended.

One little quirk

After you shut off the water, don’t expect the hose to go limp right away. It slowly releases pressure and contracts, letting out remaining water. It’s more amusing than annoying — just something to get used to.

Final verdict

Absolutely recommended. Especially for small yachts or anyone tired of stiff, bulky hoses. It saves space, avoids hassle, and costs very little — a great choice for any skipper who likes things tidy and efficient.
