Pula lies within one of the most sheltered natural bays in the northern Adriatic, historically serving as a major naval and commercial base. The Roman amphitheatre dominates the harbor entrance and is clearly visible from the sea. 

For sailors, Pula offers a combination of good depths, easy approaches, and a wide range of berthing options—from city marinas to large modern facilities. The harbor area is spacious, allowing comfortable maneuvering even for larger yachts, with traffic clearly divided between commercial, passenger, and yachting zones. Inside the bay, conditions are generally calm, making Pula suitable for overnight stays and weather waits. 

The city is often used as a base for exploring southern Istria and the Brijuni Islands.
